Tech Camps

Students gain the computer science skills needed to make an impact and prepare for tech careers in our FREE summer camp programs. Summer camp participants get exposure to tech jobs, meet LGBT+ leaders in tech careers, and find community in our supportive safe space for youth to be their full authentic self; all while building the tech competencies.

Are camps are designed and lead by LGBT+ youth.  Meet our amazing 2023 Trainers leading our Summer learning this year.

Several learning tracks to choose from:

• Narrative Video Game Writing – Learn how to write engaging, powerful narratives for your own graphic novel video game.

• Digital Visual Art Designer– Unleash your inner creativity to design the visual style of your game, using digital art technology.

• Programming/Coding – Dive into the basics of Python computer programming to bring your game to life!

• Marketing Promotional Designer -  Learn how to market a product from start to finish

 

Teams will form to build a high-quality LGBT+ Graphic Novel Video Game together.  Learn marketing, branding, and game development in this 2 week camp for LGBT+ Youth!!  Visit tech companies, meet LGBT+ developers, digital artists, and game story builders to explore the role of queer people in tech.

4 Camps to Choose From: 1 virtual / 3 in-person camps

• VIRTUAL National LGBT+ Tech Summer Camp -  A safe space for LGBTQ+ youth ages 14-19.  Learn to build a LGBT+ Video Game and a mobile app to serve queer youth.  2 weeks program design for virtual learning.

• Bay Area (SF,Oakland) LGBT+ Tech Summer Camp -  A safe space for LGBTQ+ youth ages 14-19.  Learn to build a LGBT+ Video Game and a mobile app to serve queer youth.  2 weeks program design for virtual learning.

• Austin, Texas LGBT+ Tech Summer Camp -  A safe space for LGBTQ+ youth ages 14-19.  Learn to build a LGBT+ Video Game and a mobile app to serve queer youth.  2 weeks program design for virtual learning.

• New York City Paid Internship Summer Tech Camp - LGBT+ young professionals 19-24 yrs of age.  Get your digital resume ready, build your interviewing competencies and learn coding to be ready to land a job in tech. 4 week program.

Things to know before you register:

• Camps are open to LGBT+ youth and allies with an interest in tech careers or the tech sector. No tech experience is needed to be part of the camp experience.

• Youth must be able to commit to attending the full program.

• Youth attending the National Virtual Camp will need to have access to a computer and strong wifi (let us know if you need support with access).

• In-person camps Maven Youth provides all the laptops for youth.

• All meals (breakfast/lunch) provided for free

• Youth must willing to be on Zoom or other video meeting tools (being on camera is a requirement).

• There is no cost to participate thanks to our generous sponsors, donors and volunteers!
